Note – This is a work of Fiction and figment of our imagination

When the highest chair dismissively says “Go and pray your deity,” it echoes across history like the arrogance of Hiranyakashyap asking young Prahlad—“Where is your God? Is He in this pillar?” And just as Lord Narasimha emerged from that pillar to end tyranny, it is high time that we, the citizens, seek divine inspiration to end another tyranny of our age—the evil of reservation.

A Brief History of Reservation

Reservation in India was introduced as a temporary corrective measure:

  • Pre-Independence: In 1902, the princely state of Kolhapur under Shahu Maharaj introduced caste-based reservations for backward classes. The British too implemented communal awards, dividing Indians by caste and religion.
  • Constitutional Promise (1950): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the framers introduced reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), but with a time limit of 10 years.
  • Expansion (1980s–90s): The Mandal Commission brought in quotas for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
  • Today: Over 70 years later, instead of phasing out, reservations have only expanded, covering more castes, more communities, and more demands.

What was meant to be a temporary bridge has become a permanent crutch.

Why Reservation Has Turned Into an Evil

1. Killing Meritocracy

Without reservation, many who sit in the highest offices—including judges—might not have reached those positions. Yet they mock citizens without realizing the true value of the chair they occupy. Merit, hard work, and talent are sacrificed at the altar of caste politics.

2. Sub-Standard Outputs

From administration to healthcare, from judiciary to education, reservation has created sub-standard results in many fields. Rare exceptions shine, but the overall system suffers.

3. Dynasties in Bureaucracy

Just as politicians build dynasties, IAS/IPS officers pass down the legacy to their children—most benefiting from quota advantages despite wealth and privilege. Meanwhile, talented general-category students migrate abroad, fueling brain drain.

4. Caste Over Nation

Opposition parties thrive on caste arithmetic. Elections are fought not on development, not on vision, but on “caste, caste, caste.” Reservation has become the currency of vote-bank politics.

5. Eternalizing Division

Instead of eliminating caste, reservation has cemented it. Communities compete not to rise above caste but to prove themselves “backward” to gain quotas.

Why Merit Matters

A nation cannot become a global leader if its best minds are pushed out while mediocrity is institutionalized. Whether it is space exploration, medical breakthroughs, or building global companies—India shines where merit is valued, not where quotas dictate.

Reservation was supposed to uplift the oppressed. Instead, it has created new oppressions, new inequalities, and permanent divides.

The Path Forward – A Framework to End Reservation

The fight against reservation cannot be blind abolition—it must be structured, fair, and compassionate.

  1. Economic Criteria First: Replace caste-based reservation with support for the economically weaker sections (EWS)—both rural and urban, irrespective of caste.
  2. Free Education & Healthcare: Ensure that all underprivileged children get access to quality schooling, coaching, nutrition, and medical care to level the playing field.
  3. Skill & Entrepreneurship Schemes: Instead of job quotas, empower youth with capital, training, and opportunities to create jobs.
  4. Time-Bound Exit Policy: Create a sunset clause to phase out caste-based reservation over the next 10–15 years.
  5. Strict Audits: End “creamy layer” misuse—no reservations for children of rich, powerful, or already-privileged families.

A Call to Gen Z – The Real Revolution

Nepal had its Gen Z revolution. But in India, if there is to be a real Gen Z revolution, it must not be about hashtags or street protests—it must be about ending caste politics and abolishing reservation.

  • Demand merit-based governance.
  • Demand equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.
  • Demand a system where being Indian matters more than being a caste.

When the highest chair mocks citizens by saying “Go and pray your deity,” he forgets that justice itself is divine. Just as Lord Narasimha emerged from a pillar to slay evil, India must summon its strength to slay the evil of reservation.

Because a nation that celebrates merit, equality, and fairness will rise. A nation that clings to caste and quotas will rot.

And today, India must choose.
